"My body switched off but my mind switched on."
Paddy Slattery is an award winning writer/director/producer from Offaly in Ireland but it was never his plan to pursue a career in cinema. Starting out as a painter decorator on a building site, BBC reporter Colm Flynn met with Paddy to hear the story of how his life changed direction following a car crash that left him paralyzed.
You cannot outrun a guilty conscience.

The Moment

Paddy is an IFTA nominated filmmaker who fell in love with the art of Filmmaking and Music during an uncertain time in his life, after he was restricted to a bed for almost a year, following a serious car accident. He suffered a severe spinal cord injury and subsequently remains Quadriplegic. In Paddy’s words

My body switched off and my imagination switched on…

Not one for sitting still, he now channels his energy towards the most obvious form of escapism; film and music. With regard to filmmaking; being inspired by greats of the film world such as David Lean, Stanley Kubrick, Andrei Tarkovsky, Sergio Leone, PT Anderson among others, Paddy feels it’s his time to take a step towards emulating his hero’s work.

I want to make films that will evoke and inspire. Films that will, not only entertain you, but leave a lasting impression…

Tagline: When the heart goes where the mind can’t follow.

Sojourn is a visual and poetic film, inspired by WB Yeats’ character Aedh, a lonely lost soul who yearns for love, peace and enlightenment.

Skunky Dog - Coming very soon to RTE. ... See MoreSee Less

Due to some suspicions that the programme could only be so good as a result of performance enhancing drugs Shortscreen has been thrown out of the schedule by the Olympics. We return on Monday 28th with James Fitzgerald's Skunky Dog, which is just a little special, in our humble opinion.

Some great news. Two of our short films, Today and Skunky Dog will be broadcast on RTE 2's Shortscreen. The dates are on the posters attached but we'll advertise the schedule closer to the day.

Shortscreen showcases a selection of Ireland's best short films throughout the year so to have two of our films selected is a huge honour. Congratulations to everyone involved!
